What is HMG?

HMG is supplied by Planet Biolabs as a 75iu laboratory research standard, assayed at 99.1% purity by HPLC and mass spectrometry under batch HM-2409-C. Research-grade HMG, lyophilised and third-party purity tested.

How it works

HMG is studied in controlled in-vitro and pre-clinical models where its signalling behaviour can be measured against a documented reference batch. Planet Biolabs publishes the identity and purity data for every lot so that HMG results stay reproducible between experiments.

How to handle and reconstitute

  1. Allow the sealed 75iu vial to reach room temperature before opening the carton to prevent condensation on the lyophilised cake.
  2. Reconstitute by running bacteriostatic water slowly down the inner wall of the vial — never inject the stream directly into the powder.
  3. Swirl gently until fully dissolved. Do not shake: agitation shears peptide bonds and can lower assayed purity.
  4. Label the vial with the reconstitution date and store at 2–8°C, protected from light. Use within 28 days.

Research applications

  • In-vitro characterisation of HMG
  • Reference standard and comparative assay work
  • Analytical method development (HPLC / MS)
  • Stability and storage validation studies

Background

Research context, documentation and handling

Wider context for this research area, plus the documentation, dispatch and intended-use terms that apply to every vial we ship.

Endocrine axis research

Compounds in this category are reference standards for the hypothalamic-pituitary axes. The reproductive axis runs from kisspeptin signalling onto GnRH neurons, through pituitary LH and FSH release, to gonadal steroid production. The adrenal axis runs from CRH through ACTH to cortisol output from the adrenal cortex. Each step has a receptor that can be probed independently with the right tool compound.

Because these are axes rather than isolated pathways, feedback dominates the experimental design. Downstream steroid output suppresses upstream release, so a single-timepoint measurement can miss the response entirely or catch it during rebound. Time-course sampling is generally required rather than optional.

Glycoprotein hormones in this group are calibrated in international units against a biological reference preparation rather than by mass, because activity depends on glycosylation state as well as on peptide sequence.

Practical notes for this category

These compounds are widely used as calibration and reference standards in immunoassay development, so identity confirmation by mass spectrometry matters as much as the purity figure. A reference standard that is not the sequence it claims to be invalidates every calibration curve built on it.

Handle glycoprotein preparations gently: surfactant-free surfaces adsorb them at low concentrations, and material lost to the wall of a tube reads as reduced potency.

Documentation supplied with every vial

Each vial ships with its batch code printed on the label and a matching certificate of analysis published in the certificate library. The certificate records the assay date, the purity figure returned by high-performance liquid chromatography, and the identity confirmation from mass spectrometry. Quote the batch code in any enquiry and we can retrieve the underlying chromatogram rather than the summary record.

For reproducibility, record the compound, vial size, lot number and certified purity alongside your method. If a later batch behaves differently in the same assay, that record is what makes the comparison possible rather than a matter of recollection.

Dispatch and intended use

Orders confirmed before 3pm on a working day leave the London facility the same day on a free tracked next-day service within the UK; international orders ship within forty-eight hours on a tracked courier. Lyophilised material is stable at ambient temperature for far longer than any tracked service takes, so no cold chain is required in transit — refrigeration matters on arrival and after reconstitution.

This compound is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research by qualified personnel. It is not a medicine, holds no marketing authorisation, and is not intended for human or veterinary consumption. No dosing, administration or clinical guidance is provided.
